Old Water Tank Removal

The old water tank from Sawmill came down to base today.
The tank will be replaced by a modern fiberglass tank.

Nearing Final Excavation

Crews are working on the final steps of excavation.  An
additional 3ft of earth must be excavated and filled with a
special kind of dirt called engineering fill.  The final floor will
be level with the base of the ramp at the top of the photo.

This photo does an excellent example of showing just how
much larger the new structure will be compared to the old one.

Demolition Continues...

Chipping away some of the last bits of foundation

We have to dig down about 3 ft everywhere and several more
feet where the edges of the foundation will be.  The remaining
space will be filled with engineering fill which is more stable
than the natural dirt in the area.

The yellow wall above the two orange doors will be removed
by hand so that the rest of the building is not disturbed.

Sawmill Staff Cabin Renovation

Sawmill is one of our 34 staffed backcountry camps.  The program at the camp revolves around the shooting and reloading of 30-06 rifles.

The remodeled staff cabin will feature increased living space, a health room and a new kitchen.

Demolition continues

Camping dining hall demolition continues.

The blue and yellow represents the footprint of the new structure
which will extend an additional 35' to the south.

Begin Kitchen Demolition

Today tractors began demolition of the kitchen.

The camping dining hall food line would face the opposite
direction just behind where the photographer was standing.
